The Name Game
Yikes! We only have 20 weeks to discover the perfect name for this little baby! (”Jingle Bells” will only seem cute for a limited time!) Help me think through these names. Any impressions? (This is a limited list of possibilities… I have to stop searching babynames.com at the moment. So, look at these for the time being and pass along any treasures you might think of!)
Boys:
Joshua: God is salvation
Silas: Man of the forest
Sebastian: Venerable
Solomon: Peaceful
Karsen: Christian
Matteo: Gift of God
Girls:
Serena: Serene, Calm
Sarena: Princess, One who Laughs
Lia: Bearer of Good News (At least that’s what I thought it meant when I looked it up a couple of months ago… but now I can only find websites that list its meaning as “weary” or “cow,” which is really too bad since we adore this name. Is it legal to change the meaning of a name?)
Lilia: Lily (We’d call her “Lia”)
Amalia: hard-working, industrious (We’d call her… “Lia”)
Malia: Calm and peaceful (We’d still call her “Lia”)
Serenity: Peaceful Disposition
Skylar: Scholar
Lisette: God is my oath

Hey friend! and a shout out to jingle bells as well =) whooo hoooo
I really love the name Silas-a man of the wilderness, like John the baptist, like Jesus oooh good times. Here is a link with the meaning you were looking for with the name Lia, which is adorable as well, bringer of the gospel…more good times. If it is Lia, we will pretend we never read that the meaning could be cow.

Thanks for the feedback so soon!
Emily - I love the name Skylar, too… it’s one of my favorite middle names, especially. I keep catching a glimpse of a little girl who is deep and thoughtful like the nighttime sky; and Skylar - in sound and meaning - portrays this.
Brandie - hi! At the risk of revealing our name-bias, I’ll tell you that you chose both of our favorite names from the list!
It’s interesting that both of the names compliment Vivienne’s. Before Vivienne was born, several people prophesied that she would be like John the Baptist: a forerunner towards God’s heart; someone who looked for Jesus and reminded other people about Jesus’ return. I feel like either a “Silas” or a “Lia” would be a beautiful compliment to her; may they work together for His good purposes…
Thanks, too, for the link! (Ah, finally!)

I like Silas…will you like him being called Sy or Si…. because that is generally what he would be called. I also prefer Matthew to Mateo. Joshua is always a great name.
Lia is pretty…I also like the spelling “Leah”…I must say that most of the Leah’s I know are very soft, sweet, and reserved. Lydia is also a good name.
Skylar is cool…but different… could be either male or female…and may sound like a brand of Booze…. but there I go…rightover the edge with my thinking!

Not over the edge at all! With our last name, we’ve gotta be on the ball! That’s why I’ve already nixed Lydia (though I love it, too) because it makes me think of someone asking for a “lid-to-your-booze”. Go figure.
I don’t mind the spelling “Leah,” but that spelling DEFINITELY means “weary” and “cow.” And, on some calligraphied certificates, “weak-eyed.” Hence, our inspired search for an alternative spelling… and MEANING.

My favorites (by far) are Joshua and Lia. Especially since I came up with the name Lia to begin with
Gary and I really like the name Joshua, and considered it for one of our own but “josh” sounds smushy with our last name. I still like Alexander too…

I am so excited to discuss this! Really, names are a favorite topic of mine. I’m going to write down some ideas today and post later - so now is your chance to warn me if you don’t want brutally honest opinions - lol.

Ok - I’m going to start with the girls. I think Lia/Leah is beautiful and I am a firm believer of naming your children something you love and that fits and feels right in your heart regardless of the meaning you find in a book. Every child is blessed, beloved, and a gift from God even if technically they are weary, weak eyed cows.
I also like Lilia and Lily in their own right, very pretty!
Skylar is cute, but trendy to me as a girls name.
Serena & Serenity I do not care for - just not my style
I love Lisette as a middle name, and in this case, only if Lia isn’t the first name because Lia Lisette just doesn’t flow - lol.
And now for some random suggestions from me because I could see you with a…
I’ll start with Maeve, actually, I have to confess it means “drunk one” and I had such a laugh when I read that
Lilith
Eve/Eva
Carina
Corinne
Eden
Elisabeth
Chloe
Melina
Charlotte
Gabrielle
Amelia
Lucy/Lucia
Such fun - I’ll be back to talk boys names in a bit

Wait, scratch Gabrielle, Gabby would be pretty awful with your last name.
Add Savannah

Wow! I knew I could count on you! So, you don’t think that the spelling “Lia” is too strange? Will people think that her name is pronounced L-I-a or is it a common-enough variance?
Also, I LOVE the names Elisabeth, Charlotte and Amelia.
‘Can’t wait for your boy-name genius.

No one will pronounce it Lie-a, I promise! I don’t think it’s strange AT ALL to spell the name Lia.
On the other hand, and on to boys names - I really like Silas too, but I think it would be commonly mispronounced as (window) sill-as. Not sure if that would bother you or not.
I think Solomon is a great, strong name too.
Sebastian - I dunno on one hand it’s a bit “Fabio” or something to me? But I do like it, and I really like it with Vivienne - they sound like siblings…
Boys names are HARD
Okay, Karsen, being unisex…I think I’d opt for a “C” spelling like Carson instead. The “K” makes it girly to me. But I like it. I also like Carter and Caden and Keaton.
I’m with your mom on preferring Matthew (love) over Matteo, and more then Matteo, I also like Matthias/Matahias
Random shout outs to some of my other Biblical fave’s
Adam
Isaac
Micah
Peter

Ooo, thanks for the feedback, Jan. You’re right - boy’s names are HARD! About people mispronouncing “Silas” — hopefully they won’t pronounce it “Sellus” ’cause then my child would be Sellus Booz, too common of a phrase here in State College.
Thank you SO MUCH for your thoughts…
