I read once, “The extraordinary is a preparation for the ordinary.”
Really? That-a-way around?
The apex = the ordinary?
Hmmm…
Well, perhaps.
Perhaps the ordinary is the true miracle
that all other miracles seek to establish.
The Flood, bringing forth the seasons.
Manna, bringing forth an obedient diet.
Wine from water, bringing forth hospitality.
The empty grave, bringing forth Sunday after Sunday of the deepest gratitude.
The ascension on high, bringing forth quiet and loud prayers, second-glances into the sky.
The ordinary longings of ordinary hearts.
The ordinary doings of ordinary days.
Ah, when those longings and doings say, “Come Lord Jesus!”!
The Extraordinary establishes an Ordinary
that takes my breath away.
