Service Project for the Littlest

When it comes to serving and giving, Jesus said not to let your right hand know what your left hand is doing. But, do you think it’s okay for me to let my blog readers know what my kids are doing??

Well, I’m going to go for it because I just couldn’t wait to pass along this idea to you!

I’m always on the look-out for service projects that the girls can do – even Lia. So you can imagine how my mind started racing when, one Sunday morning, I noticed that all of the pew pencils were worked down to the nubbins. I started scheming about a time when the girls and I could serve the church by sharpening those puppies up.

Today was the day! While Ryan practiced with the music team, Vivienne, Lia, and I gathered all of the pencils into little baskets, sharpened them with an electric sharpener, and put them all back in place: nice, pointy pencils, ready for all of the note-takers tomorrow morning.  Lia helped with each step of the process; she’ll be happy to use the fruit of her work tomorrow as she scribbles on the bulletin. Vivienne had fun going the extra mile by collecting left-over communion cups and straggling bulletins to really spruce the place up. It was a fantastic project to do together.

So, steal our idea! If your church has those ever-dull pew pencils, gather your littlest ones together and spend an hour serving the Body of Christ in a small, but useful way.
