A fantastic story-telling idea that my friend, Jan, passed along last year. It was such a hit here that we did it again this year… We added a personal bead to the end: each girl chose a special color to symbolize her own participation in Thanksgiving.
First black bead – for the Pilgrims leaving England for religious freedom
Next white bead – for the sails on the Mayflower
3 blue beads – for the long trip over the ocean
1 green bead – for when they spy land
3 white beads for the snow during the long winter
1 green bead – for the arrival of Spring
1 tan bead for the Native Americans who helped the Pilgrims
4 beads for the food at the first Thanksgiving: red for cranberries, yellow for corn, black for turkey, orange for pumpkins
