With a baby on the way, my goals and resolutions for 2008 are anything but specific since I have no idea what life will look like with two precious children to love. Of course, with all of the resolution-making going on these days, I’m practically going nuts with the desire to jot down my own little disciplined list and minute-by-minute schedule (‘love this stuff!). Perhaps next year.
I can say, however, that one of the themes that continually comes to my attention as I begin this new year is the challenge – and glorious vision – of wholehearted devotion to Jesus Christ. God’s longing for Israel’s heart (i.e. Deut. 5:29) and King David’s wise instruction to his son “…serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind…” (1 Chron. 28:9), inspire me with a passion that 2008 be marked by wholehearted devotion.
“God’s will is not something hidden that needs to be found;
It is something revealed that needs to be done.”
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. -from Matthew 22
